The Perdue School of Business Philip E. & Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery is a bi-annual Mid-Atlantic business competition. The Shore Hatchery is open to any Mid-Atlantic business startups. It is a ten-year $2 million initiative, which began in 2013. The program assists entrepreneurs in creating new businesses and jobs in the region. Startups apply for a share of $200,000 annually. The goal of the Shore Hatchery is to reward individuals for their entrepreneurial efforts in the creation and growth of businesses with the potential of positively impacting regional employment within three years. Businesses are required to report back to the Shore Hatchery board annually on their progress. Shore Hatchery Important Dates Fall 2020 - Open to Mid-Atlantic Business Startups Registration Open: August, 31 2020 - 12:01 AM Registration Close: September, 28 2020 - 11:59 PM Competition Day: October 30, 2020 Register for Shore Hatchery For more information on updates, click the REVISED dropdown below REVISED Registration Requirements 2020 Shore Hatchery Competition September 28 - Required Information Uploaded to Registration Site Step 1 - Profile Completed Step 2 - Business Plan Data Completed Step 3 - File Uploads – Full Business Plan (PDF), Financials and Exhibits Completed Marketing Materials Optional but highly suggested Step 3 - File Uploads - Exhibits: Marketing Materials can be uploaded under “Exhibits.” Items such as: posters, brochures, signs, business cards, information packets, photos of samples/prototypes, and links to video demos should be included in a single marketing document and uploaded to Exhibits Note: Under Step 3: File size, file types (no JPEG Files) and format limits when uploading files and we recommended you condense photos and graphics. Competitors must have all info that they want considered uploaded by September 28 2020 Fall Shore Hatchery Format Competitors will have a total of seven minutes to "pitch" their idea and respond to questions from the Gull Cage judges. Gull Cage “A Shark Tank Competition” 1 Minute Live Pitch and 6 Minute Live Q&A Via Zoom with Judges and Competitors Awards – Via Zoom Live Zoom Video Pitch Guidelines NO Pitch decks or Presentation material allowed Just you/your team and the pitch You may wear marketing items such as logo wear, shirts, hats, pins During Q&A, you can reference your uploaded submission documents. Just don’t let it be distracting The "pitch" should be no more than 1 minute and include (at a minimum). The Product or Service The Market How the Product or Service Will Make Money Your Leadership Team Your Competition and Competitive Advantage Planned Use of the Ratcliffe Funds The remaining 6 minutes will be a Zoom Q&A with you and the Shore Hatchery Judges. You will be judged on your plan concept, clarity, comprehensiveness, feasibility, and potential value of opportunity. Items can be: Brochures, signs, and displays Business cards and information packets Product samples, prototypes, and demos Power requirements should be highlighted to the organizer during registration and via email to shorehatchery@salisbury.edu Applicants should be prepared to greet, network, and pitch their business plan at their assigned table. Judges and visitors will have appointed tour times. Make your spot visually appealing and easy to understand. Competitors will be given a 6' x 30" table to share with a fellow competitor. This exhibit portion of the competition will be used to help our judges meet the applicants in a friendly, low key, stress free environment and give them an idea of what you and your business are about.
